7 Young Republicans On The Ballot!

Oklahoma City, OK - With just under three weeks before the 2004 elections several Oklahoma Young Republicans are working hard in their effort to become a part of the first Republican majority in the Oklahoma House of Representatives since 1922.

Seven Oklahoma Young Republicans will be challenging for a seat on the floor of the House of Representatives on November 2nd. Four of the seven are in heavily Republican or previously Republican held districts and with continued hard work are expected to be victorious on election day. Two of the Young Republican candidates are in close races in seats that are currently occupied by Democrat Representatives.

Leading the way is the Vice-Chairman of the Oklahoma Federation of Young Republicans (OFYR), Trebor Worthen. In July, Worthen won the four-candidate House District 87 Republican primary straight up without a run-off by securing over 50% of the vote.

"Earlier this year our Executive Committee designated the taking of the House of Representatives as an important challenge for our membership to be involved in. We had no idea that so many of our members would attempt to make a difference first hand by running for office themselves," stated Jason Murphey, OFYR Chairman. "The example of leadership demonstrated by Trebor and other YRs is an encouraging factor for Oklahoma Young Republicans who desire office in the future. Oklahoma voters support energetic young candidates who advocate for change in state government."

The Oklahoma Federation is encouraging YRs to become involved in supporting campaigns in their area. If you would like to help a local Republican candidate contact OFYR Executive Director Kyle Williams at kyleis@gmail.com in order to be placed in contact with your local campaign.

State House Candidate Joe Sinko from Lincoln County (District 32) has an opportunity for Young Republicans to help in his campaign. If you have time and would like to volunteer, there are phone calls to be made on his behalf at the Istook campaign call center in OKC and doors to be knocked in District 32. Those who are interested can call Joe Sinko at 279-1084. His email is joesinko@earthlink.net.
